Brandon arrived six weeks early and spent the first six months of his life in the NICU. Today, he’s a typical teenager, showing no hint of his fight for life during those first days, weeks and months.
“Nothing prepares you for this … surgery on day two of his life,” says Brandon’s dad Mike, a nurse at KU Medical Center. “You can’t plan for the future when you just don’t know what’s happening tomorrow.”
Instead of heading home with his parents, Mike and his wife Katie received the devastating news that Brandon was headed to the NICU. And while the future was uncertain, Children’s Miracle Network KC Heartland was with Brandon and his family every step of the way.
The NICU at KU Medical Center not only cares for the infants but also provides support and resources to their families during an emotionally challenging time. Support like NüRoo wraps and Angel Eye cameras – provided by Children’s Miracle Network – eases the burden for parents and caregivers, allowing them to focus on their baby's well-being.
Help make these hospital stays easier – maybe even for someone you know and love – by donating today. All funds donated stay local and help families being cared for on the KU Medical Center Campus.
“In our house, we fight for these tiny miracles, and, in my house, we have a miracle growing up, ready to do amazing things,” says Mike. “I don’t know if I’d have such a happy story to share without KU Medical Center and Children’s Miracle Network.”
Your donation is a beacon of hope for kids like Brandon and his family. Please donate today.
Thank you for your generous support.
